Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., conducts a news conference in the U.S. Capitol after the House passed the foreign aid package rule on Friday, April 19, 2024. The bills earmark over $60 billion for Ukraine aid, more than $26 billion for Israel and over $8 billion for Taiwan and Indo-Pacific security. The House's approval is a critical next step for foreign aid, which has been in limbo since President Biden first proposed it in October. Despite that looming political backlash, Speaker Johnson was persuaded to revisit the foreign aid package after Iran's attempted strike on Israel last weekend. In response, Johnson put the foreign aid package at the top of the House's agenda.

"I do not support Mike Johnson, he's already a lame duck," Greene told reporters. Greene filed a motion for a vote to force Johnson to vacate the Speaker position in March, but no further action has been taken since then. Speaker Johnson, who spoke to reporters after the votes as well, voiced a similar sentiment.

President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, described the act as trail-blazing, saying it would enable innovation, while safeguarding fundamental rights. "Artificial intelligence is already very much part of our daily lives. Born in 2021, the EU AI Act divides the technology into categories of risk, ranging from "unacceptable" — which would see the technology banned — to high, medium and low hazard. Sopa Images | Lightrocket | Getty ImagesA bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers introduced legislation on Tuesday to give China's ByteDance about six months to divest popular short video app TikTok or face a U.S. ban, seeking to tackle national security concerns about its Chinese ownership. The bill is the first significant legislative move in nearly a year toward banning or forcing ByteDance to divest the popular app, after senate legislation to ban it stalled in Congress last year in the face of heavy lobbying by TikTok. The bill would give ByteDance 165 days to divest TikTok, which is used by more than 170 million Americans, or make it unlawful for app stores run by Apple , Google and others to offer TikTok or provide web hosting services to apps controlled by ByteDance. "This bill is an outright ban of TikTok, no matter how much the authors try to disguise it," a company spokesperson said on Tuesday.

The bill says TikTok is controlled by a foreign adversary and poses a threat to U.S. national security. Earlier attempts to ban TikTok in the U.S. appear to have stalled, leaving some states like Montana to try and impose their own bans. The Pew Research Center released a survey in December showing that support for a U.S. government ban on TikTok is declining. The survey showed that 38% of U.S. adults support a TikTok ban as of October compared to 50% in March. WATCH: The Biden campaign joins TikTok, despite ban on app on government phones.

China's ByteDance has created a new way for people to immediately change their voice into another person's using generative artificial intelligence technology. People have already this year used AI to impersonate President Joe Biden as the 2024 election nears and pop star Taylor Swift . The output occurs at the speed of livestreaming, with just 124 milliseconds of latency, according to the paper, which noted that AI voice conversion technology thus far has mostly only been effective "offline." REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsCompanies TikTok FollowNov 30 (Reuters) - A U.S. judge late on Thursday blocked Montana's first-of-its kind state ban on the use of short-video sharing app TikTok from taking effect on Jan. 1, saying it violated the free speech rights of users. U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy issued a preliminary injunction to block the ban on the Chinese-owned app, saying the state ban "oversteps state power and infringes on the constitutional rights of users." TikTok users in Montana also filed suit to block the ban. During an October hearing, Molloy questioned why no other state had followed Montana in banning TikTok and asked if the state was being "paternalistic" in arguing the ban was necessary to protect the data of TikTok users. Montana could have imposed fines of $10,000 for each violation by TikTok in the state but the law did not impose penalties on individual TikTok users.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsJAKARTA, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Short video app TikTok is in the process of obtaining an e-commerce permit from Indonesia's government, state news agency Antara reported, citing the deputy trade minister. In September, Indonesia banned e-commerce transactions on social media, a major blow for TikTok, which had pledged to invest billions of dollars in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, the region's biggest economy. Now they are taking care of it," deputy trade minister Jerry Sambuaga was quoted saying by Antara on Tuesday. It has been looking to translate the large user base into a major e-commerce revenue source. Reuters reported earlier this month that TikTok was in talks on possible partnerships with several Indonesian e-commerce companies, including GoTo's e-commerce unit (GOTO.JK) Tokopedia, Bukalapak.com (BUKA.JK) and Blibli (BELI.JK).
